March 15th
Today we covered the importance of isotopes in science
To complete this outcome you must understand and be able to demostrate your ability to do the following:
1. Explain where in science/everyday life isotopes are used to gain information of preform tasks
2. Explain in detail at least one place that isotopes are used and how they are used
3.
I hope you remember the presentations people gave in class about the following topics:
1) Radioactive tracers in Medical Diagnosis
2) Radioactive Isotopes in Medical Treatment
3) Oxygen Isotopes in Climatology and Geology
4) Carbon and Hydrogen Isotopes in Atmospheric Nuclear Tests
5) Isotopes in dating techniques
The following are things you can do to demonstrate you understanding of the topic (complete 2 and prepare a portfolio 1) Create a brochure on one of them adding more information on them
2) Write a review, by reading an article that explains how isotopes are use
3) Make a party invitation for a day to celebrate isotopes, include things about what people might talk about at it, who will be mc and why, what kind of people would attend and why
4) Write an 1 to 2 page report on one or more
5) Create a visual representation of how one works
Some sites I recommend for information:http://www.chem.duke.edu/~jds/cruise_chem/nuclear/uses.html -simple information on some http://www.ausetute.com.au/nuclesum.html - just lists some isotopes and there uses
