Today we reviewed covalent and ionic bonding. We also reviewed charged atoms. The point of the lesson was to understand that in a formula the total charge is zero. Also we learned how to name compounds properly
Terms to remember from today:
IUPAC: International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry
Binary compound
The rules can be found on this site: http://plone.scottsdalecc.edu/borick/docs/naming.pdf
To demonstrate your understanding of this topic you should be able to:
1) Name compounds accurately when given the formula
2) when given the name be able to write the formula
3) If you are given 2 elements be able to determine the formula and name of the compound
I hope you remember the titration labs we did today along with the dice game we played.
Things you can do to demonstrate you knowledge in this topic are: (complete at least 2 and doing a portfolio assessment of 1)
1) create a brochure or manual on how to name ions and make sure the compound is balanced
2) create a game
3) make a reference guide/poster
4) make a song/saying to help you remember (and others) the rules
5) create 3 test questions you may see on a test and provide an answer key with explanation
6) do the worksheet
